Judge in court

The work of Judge can seem never-ending. Our court is one of the busiest in Allegheny County. In the last five years case filings have exceeded 33,000. Likewise, collection of revenues, fines, costs and restitution have substantially increased. In calendar year 2004 and 2005, we averaged collections of half million dollars per year, however, due to changes in collection policy and increased case filings we averaged collections of ONE MILLION dollars per year in 2007 and 2008.

Some may say its all about the money, I believe it is principally about holding people accountable and promoting responsibility, justice, and fairness. In return, real progress is eventually realized by those participants in our court and for our community. Please join me in that “Progress” and consider voting to Keep District Judge Opiela on May 19, 2009.
