Ross Raises Round Up
Feb. 15, 2009 - Len Barcousky of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that for the second year in a row Police Chief Ralph Freedman will be the highest-paid township employee. Commissioners on Feb. 09 approved his 2009 pay at $93,327, up 3.25 percent from the $90,389 he collected in 08.

Jan. 7, 2009 - Well folks, it is that time again, we rang in 2009 (most likely with bottles of champagne and scrumptious edibles) and now we look to making those New Year’s Resolutions, the three most dreaded words spoken every January. Hopefully though, being just a few days in, no one has given up and thrown in the preverbal towel on their resolutions yet.
I was doing a search on common resolutions, trying to figure out what I wanted to do for my own resolution this year. I would like to share the list of ideas for those of you out there like me, who are trying to figure out what they want to improve upon this year.
Parking restrictions enacted to quell Christmas display dispute
December 31, 2008 - Len Barcousky of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting about a new parking ban on a portion of Fairley Road, which may aid traffic flow on the narrow, hilly street. However, Len's states it probably won't improve relations among some of the people who live there.
Ross commissioners voted Dec. 22 to ban parking on both sides of Fairley, roughly between homes at 106 and 110.

Ross officials tap "Rainy Day" fund to fix streets, keep taxes in check
December 18, 2008 - The Pittsburgh Tribune Review's Daveen Rae Kurutz reports that Ross officials tapped a $2.6 million "rainy day" fund and held off on other repairs to avoid an increase in property taxes.

December 8, 2008 - It’s December and everyone knows what that means, Santa and Christmas trees, baby Jesus and the Menorah (depending on your religious preference). It seems though many people are having a hard time getting into the spirit this year, perhaps it is that some stores have had out their holiday décor since before Halloween or maybe it is the economy.

October 10, 2008 - Tiffany & Co., the high-end jewelry and silverware seller, will open its first Pittsburgh-area location at Ross Park Mall in Ross Township at 10 a.m.
Several other upscale retailers, such as Nordstrom, Kate Spade, Burberry, Juicy Couture and Louis Vuitton, are slated to open at the mall soon as well, putting Ross Park Mall at the top of the local high-end retail mountain.

Ross duplex catches fire; pregnant woman unharmed
Septermber 22, 2008 - WPXI.com is reporting that a pregnant woman is among those who escaped from a fire Sunday morning in Ross Township. Firefighters were called to a duplex that went up in flames at about 3 a.m. on Bellevue Road.
Two families, including a pregnant woman, were forced out of their homes as crews worked to extinguish the flames.

August 28, 2008 - Len Barcousky, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, is reporting that by spring, McKnight Road travelers will be able to choose between two Mexican-style restaurants across the street from one another: Qdoba Mexican Grill on one side and a new proposed Chipolte Restaurant across from it.
Lavorini out as Ross Manager
August 27, 2008 - Daveen Rae Kurutz of The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is reporting that longtime Ross Manager Tom Lavorini has been fired on the heels of a rocky year that nearly saw him fired from his job twice before.
Township Commission President Dan DeMarco declined comment Tuesday on the reasons behind the termination, the report said. But fellow Commissioner Peter Ferraro said officials were unhappy with Lavorini's performance.

August 13, 2008 - Soon the familiar yellow school busses will be traversing the North Hills School District and the spit balls will be flying. And with a new school year approaching, you might be asking yourself the same old question your kids are probably asking: will they ever approve that slope variance for Highcliff Elementary?
Okay, maybe that is not what is on your kid's mind.
It is probably impossible to really know what is dancing around a child’s noggin as they get prepared for school. However, what is likely got you wondering is how to make the first day as easiest as possible for the junior members of your Ross/West View tribe.
So here we present the following health and safety tips, culled from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), to help make the back-to-school process about as smooth as ride on Rochester Rd (okay, bad example).

Ross Township, Pa. and West View, Pa. gets out to Vote

April 23, 2008 - Voter turn out appeared high as Ross Township residents went out in droves to vote in a pivotal Democratic U.S. Presidential Primary contest between Sen. Hillary Clinton, of New York, and Sen. Barack Obama, of Illinois. The Republican candidate Sen. John McCain, of Arizona, had the advantage of watching his rivals battle it out in the Keystone State as his party nomination is all but a formality at this point.
According to CNN analysts, Allegheny County favored Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama and helped deliver the State.

Daycare capacity in Ross Township, Pa. to increase
April 19, 2008 - In township news, the Post-Gazette's Len Barcousky is reporting Carrie L. Casper has received approval from Ross officials to double the capacity of the daycare center she operates in a home on Thompson Run Road.
