North Hills back-to-school safety guide
By Matthew J. De Reno

August 13, 2008 - Where did the summer go? Soon the familiar yellow school busses will be traversing the North Hills School District and the spit balls will be flying. And with a new school year approaching, you might be asking yourself the same old question your kids are probably asking: will they ever approve that slope variance for Highcliff Elementary?
New "Games" page added!
June 2, 2008 - All work and no play would make Ross and West View a dull place. The same might be said of any great community magazine!
In that spirit, we just added a "Games" section to our Features menu. Use this section smartly. It is the perfect time waster when you are on hold, hopefully not too long, with a local shops and services provider in Ross or West View.
In other non-news, we are in the process of improving the look and feel of AcrossRoss.com. Building upon that, we aim to dramatically increase the frequency of site updates once the streamlined revisions are migrated across the entire site.
Finally, we are proud to announce our Alexa.com ranking beats out the Tribune Review's site for coverage of this same area. We are ranked in the top one million web sites. Considering there are an estimated 180 million sites in the U.S., that is not too shabby.
Health Kick with Monika

January 15, 2008 - The other day I laced up my tennis shoes and walked along Center Avenue to the West View GNC, about a 40-minute roundtrip walk from our home on Princeton Avenue.
There are so many great places to walk in Ross Township and West View and my goal this year is to make these walking opportunities a daily part of my life as I strive to achieve and maintain an optimum level of health. If you have the advantage of sidewalks nearby, I encourage you to do the same.
As a working professional and mother to an active 4-year old girl, I have decided to stick with it this time and not let work and family demands subjugate my need for health, although this is easier said than done.
But I will keep my promise this time when I said to myself, as soon as the long holidays are over, I am back to power walking which, with a bit yoga and Pilates, puts me in the most relaxed state of mind and keeps my body in tip top form. Additionally, the exercise allows me to deal with the stress of work.
Even though we live just over the border in Ross, I have noticed West View has the attraction of old city-style sidewalks, something that seems to disappear the further you north you go.
Besides daily walking, I believe the right supplements and vitamins are key to good health especially considering the current weather conditions and the constant cold I have been fighting the past few months. My plan was to learn a few things about them at GNC.
I have never been fond of excessive weight training. I take the tortoises approach to health fitness in the hope I will maintain that elusive look of the svelte hare that seems so eager to start the race and finish first yet always comes up short. If I stick with it everyday, good things will happen, I tell myself. I am optimistic, this time I will manage to keep walking a part of my daily routine.
The lady at the West View GNC was extremely helpful and after some discussion, I have decided on vitamins, protein bars and Soy based daily supplements. I felt rejuvenated as I have walked for about 45 minutes back and forth (instead of driving!). Walking gives you incredible energy and refreshes your mind.
That day I was eager to finish my house chores and work on my laptop. I have also made a promise to myself- regardless the weather-tomorrow another health walk, even if it means snow boots!
After all, a tortoise can walk in snow booths but that fast hare is probably going nowhere.
I will share with you more of my new health endeavors and I hope I see you out there walking along the streets of Ross and West View.
